Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you.

Hi, I'm Brent. I grew up in a small Southern town in North Carolina. I spent my childhood riding bikes, shooting hoops and running my ass off. You could say it was a standard suburban American up-bringing, with two loving parents and four siblings. I was a pretty active kid. In college, all that activity paid off in a full-ride athletic scholarship to one of the best schools on the east coast, Wake Forest University.

At school, I pursued my athletic interests not only on the track, but in class as well, majoring in health & exercise science. A few injuries afforded me the opportunity to take another year worth of classes, where I picked up a second major, digital art. At that time, I saw design more as a hobby than something I could pursue as a career, but I was deeply curious. University was full of experiences, from success on the track to meeting a girl from some place called Slovenia.

After university, I packed my bags, bought a one way ticket to Slovenia and got married. After the initial culture shock, I found my stride in my new home. I earned my Masters in International Business and shortly after founded a startup with two close friends from school. After building 14 apps in two years, we settled on our flagship app, Drug Registry, or the equivalent of Epocrates in Europe.

All the while, I was pursuing a professional athletics career with the pinnacle being competing in the 2012 London Olympic Games. After the olympics, however, I found my intersts being pulled elsewhere. I had my eyes set on San Francisco, the mecca for startups and technology.

2012 London Olympic Games.

2012 London Olympic Games.

I landed in San Francisco after accepting a job offer and never actually visting the place first. I had a strong desire to futher the relevance of design in an organization, and thought I coud best do that facilitating other designers as a project manger. Managing projects for a consulting firm taught me many things, the most important of which was if you want to push the limits of design in an organization, you've got to have full-autonomy. So, I met a couple guys, and we started Circle Medical.

At Circle Medical, I combine my skills in design, health, and entrepreneuriship to deliver the most value to our users. We're fortunate to be backed by some of the best investors in the valley, including Y Combinator, SV Angel, A.Capital Ventures, Liquid 2 Ventures, Collaborative Fund, and Tencent.

I love what I do for a living. Pushing the limits of a system, whether it's the human body, an institutional system, or a user's interaction with a product, is where I derive the most joy.
